About
my studio
I am
the piano and vocal teacher at Raleigh Music Academy, in
North Raleigh, NC. Please check us out.
I Have
a BM in Piano Performance from UNC Greensboro, NC with a voice minor,
and I have been teaching for 14 years.
I teach
all from about 4 or 5 to adult. It's four 30 minute lessons a month,
and they consist of 20 minutes or so
on the piano and 10 minutes on the computer. I use primarily the Alfred
method books,
but I also give them fun books from other methods, and I encourage
them to play the kind of music they
want to play from the beginning. There are MTNA and RPTA programs
to make use of, and I have 2
recitals a year; one in December and one in May.
I use
the Music Ace teaching program (Music
Ace Instructional Software) It has fun
lessons
and games which are designed to teach theory, and musicality. For lesson
times,
please e-mail me, or call Raleigh Music Academy at 878-3338.
I am
a member of the Raleigh piano teachers association and the Music teachers national association.
My teaching
philosophy is that music should be learned by everyone. It's up to
the student how far they take the lessons,
but
there is so much to learn about the way we learn things, it's
a good applied math, and there are other benefits to
taking
lessons. People who learn music tend to be "smarter". I put that
in quotes because I think it's just because they've
learned
so much about the way they learn, they are able to take what they learn,
and apply it to other things they want
to learn,
and are therefore able to learn more quickly and grasp concepts more easily.
