Biography
I've been playing Piano and Keyboards my whole life, since about 3
years
old. I have always loved music and wanted to be a musician.
I wasted a lot of time in my 20s doing data entry, and getting a
psychology
degree. But when I was 30 I went back to UNCGreensboro
and finished up a degree in music. Ever since then I have been
teaching
and playing. Meeting Kevin Riggs was one of the best things that
happened to me, and he has encouraged and nurtured my goals. Now
he's
my bass player as well!
I write songs about what I think. When I write lyrics, I sit
and
just write down what I think, and then I turn the words around
a little to make them into lyrics. I've been singing since I was
little
too, but only seriously in the last 2 or 3 years.
UNCG taught me that to really be a musician you've got to sweat the
details.
So that's what I do these days.
I've been teaching and playing professionally now for many years, and I
always
find something new to learn.
I say a big thank you to everyone who has been involved in this
journey
I am on. There have been a lot of people
who have helped in one way or another. Whether it was teachers
who
were good, or bad, or friends who stuck by
me, or didn't, it's all brought me here, and it's all good. To my
students,
and to all young musicians everywhere,
I say stick to your goals, trust yourself. And make sure your
goals
are your own, not someone else's. Then if
you work hard and still fail, at least you didn't waste your time, the
ride
was fun. That's what you have to do.
Make the ride fun.
